Piedmont Fresh Introduces CSA Box

April 12, 2025 Jessica Rogers

Discover Correll Farms’ Legacy in Every CSA Box

In the heart of Rowan County, a sixth-generation family farm is growing more than just vegetables—Correll Farms is growing a legacy.

What started in the late 1880s with a widowed mother’s hope for her son's future has blossomed into a vibrant, sustainable farm that nourishes both land and community. And now, for the first time, you can bring a piece of that history to your own kitchen—with the Correll Farms CSA box, now available through Piedmont Fresh!

🥕 What’s a CSA Box, and Why Should You Try One?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture— by becoming a CSA member (or subscriber), individuals and families provide a reliable income source for their local farmer at the beginning of the growing season, and in return receive a regular box of freshly harvested, seasonal produce.
Signing up for a full-season CSA also plays a vital role in supporting your local farmer. The subscription is like an investment into their farm, providing reliable income early in the growing season — when seeds, soil, and sweat are going in long before the first harvest.

Think of it like a farm-to-table mystery box. You sign up, and each week (or delivery cycle), you receive a hand-picked selection of the best of what’s growing right now. It’s the freshest food you can get without growing it yourself—and it’s a great way to:

  • Support local agriculture and small family farms

  • Try new vegetables and expand your culinary creativity

  • Enjoy the highest quality produce, harvested just for you

  • Build a deeper connection to the people who grow your food

And when that food comes from a farm like Correll Farms, every bite comes with a story.

Now Offering: Correll Farms CSA Box on Piedmont Fresh

A Century of Stewardship: The Story Behind the Box

The Correll family farm began in the late 1880s, when Martha Correll, a young widow, bought land to secure a future for her son, Franklin. Franklin and his wife Josie raised eight children there, and their youngest, E.T. Correll, inherited the farm.

E.T. kept the farm running through the Depression and WWII, converting it to a Grade A Dairy in 1938 to keep it viable for the next generation. He passed it to his sons, Sam and Eubert, who expanded into vegetables, grain, and milk production—eventually forming Correll Brothers Farm.

In 1996, David Correll, Sam’s son, returned after graduating from NC State to take the farm into the 21st century. After retiring the dairy herd in 2005, David and his wife Cheryl turned their focus to vegetables and eggs, while continuing their strong advocacy for conservation and sustainable farming. Their children, Josie and Talton, are now the sixth generation raised on this land.

Over the years, Correll Farms has earned numerous accolades, including:

  • Top 10 Outstanding Young Farmers in the U.S. (2015 – David Correll)

  • Conservation Farm Family of the Year (2019)

  • Service on multiple local, state, and national ag boards

  • Hosting school field trips and educational ag events

Their land is now protected in perpetuity through a Conservation Easement, ensuring it will never be developed—only farmed, just as it always has been.

🍽️ From Our Farm to Your Fork

The Correll Farms CSA box isn’t just about produce—it’s about preserving a way of life. Every box you order supports:

  • Local farmland preservation

  • Responsible, sustainable agriculture

  • A family’s enduring commitment to their community

So whether you’re a foodie, a home chef, or someone who just wants the freshest, most flavorful ingredients around—this CSA box is your chance to eat with purpose and enjoy every bite.
