Workgroup: Food Security (Health Access and Promotion) Workgroup

Last year as COVID-19 impacted food access to all communities, Davidson County began regular zoom meetings to discuss efforts to help feed our community. Through these zoom meetings, various groups were able to pool resources, and/or open new feeding sites. Schools were able to feed a significant part of the student population and other non-profits were able to supplement those meals.

Food access challenges still remain and we would like to continue this workgroup to connect all organizations working to improve food and nutrition access in the county and share challenges and ideas that groups are undertaking.

Various federal grants have already been released, whether it be for SNAP, food prescriptions and local food access. We would like to be able to apply for these grants for Davidson County, but need to understand the county’s priorities, where the greatest needs are and develop longterm and sustainable strategy that provide real and lasting impact. By doing so, we can apply for these grants with prepared plans.
